Background information

Josh and Crystal reached out for a design system that would be used for their wedding. The design would be printed onto save-the-date cards, invitations, stickers, and English and Chinese prayer cards.

I developed the concept with Josh and Crystal: silent, hopeful expectation transforming in vibrant, beautiful fruitfulness.

The artwork and designs unite their love for local wildflowers and the Mother Thrice Admirable (the name for Mary in the Schoenstatt Movement). The choices of flowers and imagery reflect their desires. In particular, they wanted the prayer cards to have permanence.

They chose me because they love my process and way of storytelling through my work. Not only was I in their wedding, my work was also part of their wedding!

It is always an incredible honor for me to be asked to create beautiful work for such beautiful occasions as weddings and for such beautiful hearted persons. This kind of work brings my heart joy!

I treated this wedding piece like I do all wedding pieces: as a work of art, using symbols to communicate the deep love and lively personalities the couples share.

Symbolism and Style breakdown

Wildflowers - Local flowers that bloomed at the time of their wedding.
Seeds - Seeds of the local flowers (they come in such interesting shapes and textures).
Limestone Arch - Harkens to the LBJ Wildflower Center, where the wedding reception took place. Limestone speaks to the locality.
Shrine on the hills - Visible through the arch is the Schoenstatt Shrine on top of rolling hills. This was where the party went after the wedding reception. It is also a place of great significance to both Josh and Crystal.
Chinese Mother Thrice Admirable - Draws from Josh’s Taiwanese ancestry. The flowers and red coloring of the clothes are a traditional symbols use in Taiwanese culture.

Handmade feeling gives it a sense of youthfulness, charm, and energy.
Muted colors of the save the date speak of a season of waiting and expectation for the wedding.
Vibrant colors of the invitation speak of a season of celebration and fruitfulness
