I am the Associate Director of Media at the Austin Institute

The Austin Institute is a non-profit that fosters high-quality social science researchers, research and policy affecting family and culture, and intellectual community with UT Austin faculty, students, and professionals in the Austin-area and beyond. The institute hosts lectures and other programs featuring guest scholars and industry leaders on and around UT campus and dinners at the institute’s home to discuss research and topics on how to cultivate thriving families and cultures.

Among the greatest pleasures and achievements of my job have been discovering the soul of the institute’s brand and designing the brand.

My role’s central duties include:

  • Producing and updating design, web, video+photo, and podcast identity pieces.

  • Communicating the institute’s soul to build a following on our media channels: Instagram, Facebook, print media, website, podcast, email newsletters, and YouTube channel.

  • Strategizing, scheduling, and tracking the effectiveness of our product campaigns and generation strategies. (The products of the institute are principally programs and recorded content of the programs).

  • Working with the President and the Associate Director of Academic Programing to establish goals for demand generation, provide reports on the effectiveness of strategies, propose strategies modifications, and advise on new product opportunities. (The goals of the generation strategies are principally to increase our number of followers/subscribers to the institute’s content).

Other duties include:

  • Getting my hands dirty and spearheading the production of our design, web, video+photo, and podcast products and campaigns.

  • Directing interns and our contract creative talents to produce design, web, video+photo, and podcast products and campaigns.

  • Conducting interviews, collecting data, and interpreting data about our products and product campaigns.

I also fulfill duties of various roles: film producer, camera and audio operator, gaffer, audio engineer, animator, illustrator, copywriter, and UI/UX designer.
